EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

I like to accumulate as much period and current literature that might be available for the various radios in my collection. Recently I have been putting together a few items that relate to Scott Radios.

I'm sure that some of these items will be familiar to many but there may be a new one or two here:

  • First stop is the Scott Info Archive on this site. It's great for original manuals, drawings, and Scott in house publications.
  • Antique Radio Classified magazine has published a number of articles on E. H. Scott radios.Three that I found in my collection are: February 1990, Scott's Telematic Remote Control, by Norman Braithwaite (a regular contributor here); September 1997, cover photo of Scott Philharmonic from an auction; December 2012, The EH Scott 30-Tube Philharmonic Radio Receiver, by Richard Majestic (another member of this site).
  • E. H. Scott, The Dean of DX, a book available at various places for about $10 (1985 edition, Marvin Hobbs)
  • Custom Built-to-Order, reproduction (high quality) of 1940 Scott magazine (I got this from Kent King on eBay)
  • The Mid-Atlantic Antique Radio Club newsletter for November 1992, Highly Collectible World War II Radio Receivers (Scott RBO morale, Scott RCH)
  • Radio Age, August 2001, Silver Versus Chrome (Part 1), by Joe Koester. (I haven't found part 2 yet). The Scott Allwave Deluxe goes head-to-head with various McMurdo Silver models (727SW, 728SW).
  • American Radio History is a web site. They have complete back issues for hundreds of radio magazines. You can download them as PDF's or just view on line. Many of them can also be printed. I just downloaded the August, September, and October 1937 issues of Radio News and printed out a 3-part review of the 30-tube Scott Philharmonic (pointer dial). There is also a great Broadcast Engineering article (Feb. 1990) that compares the Scott to modern receivers. That one does not allow printing.

What is your favorite reference?
