Question on Masterpiece Sensitivity Control Mod

Evening all,

After aligning the Masterpiece its one nice receiver! Enjoy dxing late at night.

I was wondering if anyone has seen/heard of a substitution of the sensitivity switch using a pot/switch basically absorbing the 2k ohm resistor/switch that makes up the hi/lo sensitivity adjustment into a variable?. There's alot of noise here and in the hi position the noise blows you right out of the room. In the lo position its much better but quite deaf. Installing a pot would add the ability to better control the gain.

I know its a violation against purity as is the other tweek below, but might be far better in the usability dept.

I may add a couple of NE-2s on the oscillator plate supply to see if its adds a bit more stability although its quite stable now. Listening to SSB with an Agilent func gen as bfo does show slight drift in the 6J5 osc. Am thinking a couple of NE-2s might help.

Any thoughts?

I am not aware of anyone who has replaced the sensitivity switch with a 2k potentiometer but I would consider it a very acceptable improvement as long as it is executed in a fully reversible manner and the original switch is saved and kept with the receiver.
