Scott serial numbers

As most of you know, I've been gathering and analyzing Scott serial numbers for over 20 years. I have a couple requests....first, if you haven't sent me your serial numbers, please do. Also...if any of you have a confirmed date for a set/serial number, please send me that. There is a warranty tag on ebay at the moment, these are great, since they have the date and serial number on them. A letter with a date is also good confirmation. I would greatly appreciate any info you fellows can provide. I'll post more about serial numbers here in the future.

Thanks Ralph....Norman has more data on the 800s than I do. <Every> set with a date is very valuable to us.

Hello Kent. I'm a brand new member (in a not so new body) and I've posted photos of my Scott set in hopes that someone can identify it for me. I've owned it for 35-40 years and was told it's vintage was 1931, and that it was ordered without a cabinet ... however nothing has been confirmed.

The SN is C 482 and if that helps pin it down I'd appreciate anything you can tell me about it.

kent first i read some info about your large scott from france very nice !!!! i have 3 800b's

1.1451   2.1917   3.2292   first 2 and finished all but aligned have not aligned a scott it looks kinda scarrrry....just picked up from ebay a 800b the 2292 last week it well need some work the wires that go to the vol control are burnt as well as the wire to the motor relays took some high heat but need to finish the chippendale cab hard to lacquer when it is cold & if you know of a cabinet for sale let me know and i don't know when they were built

Rocco - you posted photos of the early 23 tube High Fidelity Allwave (referred to as the early AW-23) with the 17 tube receiver, 6 tube amp, and 12 inch Magnavox pedestal speaker. Introduced 1935. Serial number is about right for the AW-23.

Hello Kent,

I just joined the EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts group.

My father-in-law is downsizing. He has a EH Scott Model AFM Philharmonic radio in a Chippendale Cabinet. I has the FM band that was later made obsolete. The serial number is RR379.

Frankly, the cabinet is in poor shape. There are lots of scratches and some water stains. My father-in-law hasn't used the radio for at least 15 years, although he says it did work the last he used it. The phonograph was removed and discarded a long time ago.

I'm wondering if I should remove the two chassis (radio & power supply/amplifier) and the speaker - clean them up and make sure they are working. Would they be worth selling? Do you think there is a ready market for those component? I'm an electrical engineer, & have the test equipment to repair it if necessary. I also have time as I'm about to retire myself. I'd find the project enjoyable.

It's a shame that the Chippendale is in such bad shape. I really don't think it was a very attractive cabinet in the first place - especially compared to the other cabinet models.

I'd appreciate your comments and opinions - and that of any other members as well.

I would appreciate the pdf of the service manual, if you still have it.

I have 3 Philharmonic numbers for you:

1st generation, PointerDial:  E-704

2nd generation, Beam of Light: BB-456

3rd generation, Beam of Light FM: GG-397

Also, I have a Phantom Deluxe: PP-493  and an AllWave 12 (receiver only) I don't see a serial number on the chassis - where is it, exactly?

Harris -

The set (tuner, amp, speaker) would always be worth restoring. You can find the technical and owners manuals by clicking on the link up above "Scott Info Archive". I did not have this serial number, thanks for providing it. I'm sure others will jump in with help as well. Thanks!

Charlie -

Thanks...funny thing here, I had all the serial numbers in your list except for the last one (Phantom). That one is significant...it is not the highest Phantom in that prefix. Changes the numbers slightly for production of Phantoms. I need to get everyone here an update on serial numbers....I promise to do that soon after the Michigan meeting.
