The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

A couple pics of a Special that recently changed hands. I had the opportunity to see this set recently and wanted to share a couple pics. For those that are wondering, there are 11 Specials known at present, out of (probably) 21 or so built. A good survival rate, but at the price of a new car in 1939, I'd probably keep my set around too!

Had the opportunity to play with one of these a while back. My friend was going through it for the new owner. Had the original caps running on constant current transformer at about 90vac after reform. Performance on BC and SW was remarkable. Sound quality was better than I'd heard in a communications receiver. Hope to own one some day.

You happen to have the serial number? Kent would want that number.

Unfortunately, my friend says no. He did say that it now belongs to a big collector in the Pittsburgh area.

Ah, I know that set already. A "new" Special turning up is a very notable event...although it has happened fairly recently.

It looks like it's in a cabinet by Par-Metal?

Actually, we're pretty sure the cabinets were made by Bud in Cleveland. I have a catalog showing the power supply covers, and found references to the oversize set cabinet as well. This is no where near a standard 19 in rack mount, the chassis opening is 24 in wide and about 11 high.
