EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

I see a number of radios by diverse brands that were sold paired with either phonographs equipped to record radio programs or home events. Outside of the Quaranta series, did E. H. Scott Laboratories ever sell radios that included phonograph recorders, wire recorders or tape recorders?

Yes.  I am aware of the following receivers including original record lathes:

Allwave Deluxe in Westerly Grande (Electromatic)

Allwave 27 in Warwick Grande (Presto 12" overhead)

Allwave 27 in Rivinia Grande (Presto 12" overhead)

Special Phantom Deluxe in side by side cabinet (Seeburg BR)

I am sure there were others.

Norman;

Thanks for the information on these models. I thought that E. H. Scott had provided such equipment in some products in his line, but was uncertain which ones were the most likely to receive such equipment.

I believe that Scott would have accommodated customers requests for recording equipment on any model offered between 1930 (AC-10) through 1941 except for the Sixteen, Super XII, and Masterpiece.  The output power of these three models was insufficient to drive a cutting head.  Technically the output power of the earlier models was also insufficient but Scott offered recording equipment with them anyway.

Norman

Norman;

I went back to the Collector's Guide and looked through it again. Somehow I had failed to notice the section that discussed and illustrated several examples of these recorders. I should have looked there first! It does at least mention several manufacturers who supplied them. I have been doing some research on these disc recorders and so far I have not seen specifications as to what different brands and models frequency response were. I do remember reading that the depth of the goove cut was a very important aspect of such recordings as is the exact size tip used. The ones for 78rpm recordings are of course much larger than the ones for 45's or 33's.
