The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

I have a Scott 16 Aristocrat … Original paperwork including bill of sale, directions, letters from Scott regarding repairs and suggestions... Cabinet in fair condition, speaker cloth needs restoring. Last ran about 8-10 years ago (was repaired by a qualified repair shop). Would anyone know how much this might be worth?

First -- I  hope I did this right -- there should be 7 pictures. The radio comes with the original bill of sale, notarized guarantee form, at least 20 original letters of correspondence from the manufacture from order to concerns regarding maintenance, news letters, a number of extra tubes, etc. The original number is EE-189. Thanks for your interest and any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. This radio ran about 8-10 years ago. I have not plugged it in since.

Robert -Welcome!!

I am very interested in the serial number of your set and the date, since you have paperwork. I've been researching serial numbers for many years, a number with a date is always very helpful.

I know folks are hesitant to quote values, Dave noted several items of concern to collectors. The issues of shipping and transport are the most costly issue for Scott sets. As you are on the east coast, there are collectors fairly near you that could pick the set up. So often, we see a nice set out in Montana and the nearest collector is 700-800 miles away. Based on the front view, the cabinet is fair, we can't see the chrome. If the chrome is decent and clean, this set could bring between $500 and $750 as it sits. Prices on radios have been down in the past few years, fewer collectors, and fewer still are folks able and willing to buy a Scott. The Sixteen in the Acousticraft is a fairly common set (as Scott's go, they aren't "common", but...) The cabinet is popular...can you add some pics of the back side?

No specific reason … it has just sat in a corner in my family room...

The cabinet name is:  ACOUSTICRAFT.   (Careful attention to acoustic properties of this cabinet design).

Value depends on condition of the cabinet and of the chrome plate on both the receiver and the power supply. Bad speaker cloth is a negative. So is cost of shipping.

IF the work was by a "qualified repair shop" then extensive replacement of capacitors and filter capacitors should show on the repair bill and it played OK at that time then it should be OK to power it up briefly preferable using a Variac or light bulb tester (with a 100 watt incandescent light bulb) for a slow start.

Is there a reason you have not powered it up for 8 or 10 years?
