On my 16a there is a dual segmented .05uf capacity on each of the main power wires to ground. It’s good. But it’s 75 years old. Any issues removing it and putting on a grounded polarized power cord?

Tuner issues on 16A

Hello again. I am working on electrically restoring my 16A. A lot of paper capacitors and out or spec resistors.I usually do this kind of work on amplifiers and don’t run into too many radio tuners. Because if this, my multimeter and soldering iron are really all I have needed in the past.I’m working on getting this tuner going. I have replaced about 75% if the capacitors in the unit and all the out of spec resistors I can find. The only caps left (aside from some in the tone control circuitry)…See More

"That is a paper in oil capacitor with higher leakage current than wax-paper capacitors being normal.  This will cause some capacitance meters to read high.  It is most likely good.  If voltages are as expected and the capacitor does…"

Capacitor replacement

I am having a hard time sourcing a replacement for one of the capacitors in my 16A. Any help would be appreciated. it’s a 4uf 600v can type with a screw base to mount it. I can leave it in the chassis for aesthetics and replace it with a different capacitor underneath, but all I have found in the same spec is a polypropylene film capacitor. Can I use that?  any other ideas would be great. This one is measuring 8.4uf. It’s bad. …See More

"I did pull one of them, the first one wasn’t so bad. Both resistors under it were 20% out of spec, both caps were Mica.  other Mica caps in this set were out of spec but haven’t pulled these to check them. "
