The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

At some point will need to purchase a pair of tweeters for my Allwave 23.  MIght anyone know what the ohm readings might be on each driver?  Would like to make sure that is correct before I commit to a purchase.

Thanks in advance.

As you see, got a pair of tweeters for the Allwave 23.  It probably will become obvious when I mount, but to be sure which one goes on the left or right?  Even though the radio will not be up and running for awhile, is there anything that needs to be checked on these or the woofer, resistors, caps, etc.?       Also just a thought, my Philharmonic is running, if the plug fits the woofer, might these work in it?  May not do, but a thought?

Thanks again to everyone.

Also, as mentioned, I think, before the tweeters plug into the left plug on the woofer, and the woofer would then plug into its right plug?  Or do I have it backwards?  Thanks

You are right...you move the short plug on the large speaker to the other (right) socket and plug the tweeters in to the left plug.

No - the AW-23 tweeters are not suitable for the Philharmonic, nor vice-versa.

Why? The AW-23 tweeters have field coils. Although the Philharmonic tweeters from 1937 to about 1940 look much like the AW-23 tweeters, the Philharmonic version have permanent magnets, meaning no field coils and different wiring harnesses and plugs.

As a side note, sometime about later 1941 field coil tweeters did appear for the optional high fidelity speaker system for the Philharmonic, Phantom Deluxe and Laureate, but these tweeter field coils were powered by the outboard crossover having a rectifier tube.

Thank you.

Thanks to all once again, and any caps or resistors hidden in any of these needing to be checked or replaced?

For the AW23 tweeters, the box looking thing on one speaker is a large capacitor, part of the crossover. It doesn't always go bad, but check for leakage and consider replacing if it is leaky.

Thank you.

Another question if I might, may have been answered previously, but looking to get extra neon tubes, just in case.  Don't see many for sale, a couple on ebay.  Is the General Electric 471/NE16/LM-46/VIII correct?  Thanks again.

The spares I have are marked NE-42. Remember: these scarcely ever go bad, only if you break them or separate the bottom from the base. And the set will work without them. If you really want a spare, pick up one when you find it, it will be enough.

Might these tweeters work on a Scott Philharmonic?  On Ebay 143520877696

Thanks
