You do fine work Steve.  Very impressive.  If you find the AW23 desirable, I personally would go for it.   I too would go after the 800B.  Good luck and please let us know what you end up doing.

Jon

Beutiful radios and work! It's interesting now to see these 1930s Majestic chrome grill radios being reproduced and sold with modern electronics in them. This indicates that great design withstands the test of time!

Have you ever seen this radio from down under?

Gday Jon,

I would make a custom art deco cabinet to retro fit the components, I have been restoring vintage radios for 30+ yrs now and I think I could do something nice that's if I decide to buy this unit, any Scott in Aussie is rare because of the huge shipping costs and customs etc, I have also been offered a 800B as a trade also, this is not in cabinet either :-) here's a sample of my restoration work !

Hey Jon,

Yes I certainly let you know how I go, they are both impressive radios of high quality, we made nothing like this in Australia as we were a small country back in the 30's and no market for high end radio re population and manufacturing needs ! thank you for the thumbs up with my restoration :-)

Gday David,

Thank you for your kinds words, no I have not seen a repro Majestic at all, how long have they been doing this ? I have had 4/5 over the years, I buy them from New Zealand because they are 240 volt sets and the US marketed their radios for many years to NZ, our Government stopped imports in 1930 to prop up our own manufacturers and this worked well, companies like Stromberg Carlson, HMV, Philco, and a few others set up shop here to overcome this ! I still have 3 Majestics, one restored and 2 to be restored, they sell well because of the art deco styling :-)
