EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Hello,

I'm new to the group and to vintage radio. I recently took a chance and purchased this Scott Marine SLRM radio without a power cord, but was told it worked before the original owner passed away. The original power cord cannot be found. It has an unusual 3 prong connection and I cannot find a cord to see if the radio actually works. I pulled the radio from the cabinet and everything looks to be in proper order. I believe it also has the original antenna on the back. I understand the the chassis could be "hot" because it does not function on a isolated transformer. I have multiple concerns and questions since I am very new to the hobby.

Question 1: The inside is very dirty, so what is the best way to clean the internals?

Question 2: What is the best place to purchase tubes? I noticed a couple of tubes with tape and the word "short" written on them, so I assume I have some faulty tubes.

Question 3: What is my best option to get power to the unit? This is my main concern.

Any advice would be extremely helpful. I was going to simply buy an extension cord and cut the female end off in order to properly wire everything to the strange 3 prong configuration.

Green wire to Prong #2 (Ground)

Hot wire to Prong #1

Neutral to Prong #3

To my understanding... I would not need a isolated transformer, but probably should purchase one.

Hi Zach ! The SLRM is a GREAT radio. I have one. I "restored" it some years ago. All I did was replace the 4 power supply electrolytic condensers with ones I had made by Hayseed Hamfest, replace the two power input RF bypass condensers with modern safety caps, and replace the antenna input socket, for which the mating plug is unobtainable, with an SO-239. All the paper condensers are in little oil filled sealed cans and will virtually last for ever. The resistors on mine were all in tolerance. This is a link to my discussions. In it you will find all my conversations about my SLRM.   https://ehscott.ning.com/forum/topic/listForContributor?user=0206sa...   Good luck, and keep us informed of your progress !
