Think you are right that there was once a lid. If you want a lid, you would have to fabricate one.

Past owner evidently wanted a copper box shield. Never seen another like it - and I have seen or owned about a dozen AC-10's over the years.

I'm thinking that there was originally a lid for the box? Based on the catches on each side...kinda like an AK 55 or 60 has for it's "lid".

Never seen the AC-10 receiver mounted in a copper box like yours.
