Thanks. Just found this group. I had a Scott Allwave 12 Deluxe that my grandfather bought new in the ‘30s; my son has it now. It has some of the original paperwork, including a personal letter from Mr Scott to my grandfather offering hints for shortwave reception after my grandfather wrote to the company complaining about not receiving signals. I think the gist was to “read the manual” 🙂. Later correspondence in 1944 gave modifications to have a radio repairman do to replace the no longer available Wunderlich tube; those mods were done. An interesting note to me was the signature box on the blueprint schematic drawing had a ham callsign instead of a name or initials.
I had the radio working when I was in high school, but that’s been over 50 years now and I’m sure it will need recapped before any attempt to use it. I just got outbid on eBay for a supposedly unused Wunderlich tube. I don’t think I would unmodify the radio but it would have been neat to have. It will be my son’s project in the future.
