The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

I have a garrard rc50 turntable for free you just pay for the shipping.  Note this record needs a lot of TLC.  I got this changer via Norman..I did some work it.  Lubricated the motor gears to get the turntable rotating.  I then noticed a break in the cast iron frame near the record holding platform.  I epoxied The two pieces together.  I then noticed the timing cam teeth didn't mesh with the motor housing.  The explains why  nothing happens when the turntable spins..NOTICE the motor and timing cam are mounted onto the frame with no adjustments for positioning. The frame must have warped a bit over time.  The cam is mounted on posts cast in one piece with the frame.  The gap in the teeth is about 1/16" .  I think maybe you could slightly elongate the three motor mounting holes and  shift the motor into position.  I haven't tested  the cartridge .  The wires were cut!   Oh one last thing the spindle that came with the turntable is for 10" records.  The 78 records I have are all 12".  Well that for me is the last straw...I couldn't use the  turntable unless I found 10" records or the 12" spindle for a RC50.

Robert,

I would pay shipping on this for an allwave 12.

Robert, you procured the RC-50 from Stephen Masik.  I was the one who informed you that Stephen had the changer available.

Norman

I don't have an allwave 12 but I do have a super XII I would consider selling.

Sorry, I am interested in this phonograph. I plan on putting it to good use on my allwave 12

Oh I misunderstood you prior message.  Originally the turntable was shipped to me from midwest via UPS for $65.  I already packed it up using the original shipping box.  Stephen made a wooden frame to hold turntable in the box to prevent damage.  Stephen went the extra mile to make sure it arrived OK.  Oh I forget to take pictures before I sealed the box for shipment.  Actually that was how the transaction with Stephen was conducted.  I got an  email message from him that he had the turntable free for shipping and what my address was.   A couple of hours later I got  a second email saying it was shipped the cost was $68 !  I sent him the payment via friends and family on Paypal.

Oh I will mention one detail I didn't know about when I got it from Stephen.  When you load a record it is held in place by this giant looking "Y" thing.  One of the wings is broken off so you get only a  half a "Y".  It will still hold a record OK just looks a bit odd.

pics?

I wanted an RC-50 for my AM/FM Philharmonic build, but I was warned away from them by a friend that collects/restores record changers. He advised me to buy an RC-80 or 90, as they look similar to the earlier ones, but without all the pot metal issues. Another friend found me a working RC-80 for $15...so that's what I'll use.
