Phantom 20 tube vs a 19 tube chassis - are they interchangeable

Hello all-I have a 19 tube Phantom set that has been recapped etc but my radio guy can not get it working. He thinks the alignment is way off.

My question is can a 20 tube main chassis if working ok, be subbed into the amp and 12" speaker from a 19 tube set ? My cabinet has a plug in it where the extra shaft comes out below the tuning dial shaft. I am pretty sure I can knock out the plug and use the cabinet with the 20 tube Deluxe chassis

Seems like 20 tube chassis are alot more common to find than the 19 tube chassis.

Thanks as always-Bruce

Bruce:

I examined the schematics published in Riders and it appears that you can operate the tuner of a 20 tube Phantom Deluxe using the power amplifier of the 19-tube AM Phantom.  Try with caution (use of a variac for first power up is recommended).  The speaker is another story.  The 19-tube AM Phantom requires the speaker using the 8-pin octal plug whereas the 20 tube Phantom Deluxe requires the speaker using the 7-pin plug.  The speakers are electrically different but may be modified to work with the non-correct power amplifier.

Thank you Norman. You saved me spending money for a chassis that won't easily work in my situation. I will look for a 19 tube main chassis,
