EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

I saw beautiful Luis XV cabinets  used with Scott Masterpiece (http://www.radiodaze.com/Scott-Masterpiece.htm) and Zenith 15-u-273 (http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/zenith_15u273_louis_xv_15_u_273.html).

Were there any other Scotts in this cabinet? Philharmonic? Other radio brands? Is there a chance to buy this cabinet at all?

Thank you all in advance for your answers!

Leonid:

The Phantom was also available in the Louis XV cabinet and other small Scott chassis such as the Super XII and Laureate may have been available in this cabinet as well if offered concurrently.  I am pretty sure that the Louis XV cabinet was to small to house the Philharmonic.  Scott sales literature will identify which chassis were available in this cabinet.

Norman, thank you for your reply.

I checked "Silver Ghosts" by Puett - he does not mention Louis XV at all there. In his "Classic radio collectors handbook" he mentiones this cabinet, but does not specifies which radio can be used with it.

A number of "Scott news" I saw do not mention Louis XV cabinet too.

Badly want this cabinet + Scott's Masterpiece...  :)

By the way, any McMurdos in Louis XV? Or too late for McMurdo? I guess they bankrupted in 1937 and the cabinet was introduced somewhere in 1938?

Leonid:  I checked the cabinet brochures and order forms in my files for which chassis were available in the Louis XV cabinet.  Based on the brochures and order forms that I have, the Phantom, Phantom Deluxe, and Masterpiece were available in the Louis XV cabinet.  The Philharmonic definitely was not.  The Louis XV cabinet was not offered in brochures and order forms featuring the Laureate chassis.  I was unable to find any brochures or order forms featuring the Super XII and therefore remain uncertain if the Louis XV cabinet was available with the Super XII chassis.

Norman

Hi Norman, very interesting, thank you!

Super XII was a small receiver, so it was not the chassis size that mattered, but something else...
