This is a frequency shifter. Sold with a set of 3 SW coils. One of the SW coils is mounted on top of the box. There is one tube inside the converter. You remove the radio oscillator tube and insert the plug from the converter.

There are two versions of the converter.

- for the AC-10  - a 5 pin plug, and a 27 tube inside.

- for the SG9       - a 4 pin plug and 01A inside.

The less common version for the SG9 (Shield Grid 9) just sold on eBay.

The AC-10 version is more common and I have one. I stumbled into the 01A version a few years ago. The SG9 originally used a set of larger copper box SW coils for short wave reception, and represents Scott's first all wave radio. But these SW coil boxes for a SG9 are exceedingly rare. It was my speculation that this 01A version SW adapter is for the SG9 (of 1928) because the SG9  was still offered after the AC-10 was developed in 1929.

The SG9 was a kit battery radio. Initially the AC-10 was also a kit radio before Scott started manufacturing it and was Scotts first radio designed as a socket powered radio.
