The Fine Things are Always Hand Made
Hello again. I am working on electrically restoring my 16A. A lot of paper capacitors and out or spec resistors.
I usually do this kind of work on amplifiers and don’t run into too many radio tuners. Because if this, my multimeter and soldering iron are really all I have needed in the past.
I’m working on getting this tuner going. I have replaced about 75% if the capacitors in the unit and all the out of spec resistors I can find. The only caps left (aside from some in the tone control circuitry) are mica and ceramic inside the tuner assembly under the black cover.
I can pull in a couple AM stations but they are weak and only work at all when the sensitivity dial is maxed out. I cannot get anything on FM. Only static. All other functions work well.
When I am on AM and I'm tuning the dial, wherever I expect a station, the tuning eye closes and the static changes a bit. But I really can’t get any audio. The tuning eye does not change at all while attempting to tune on FM.
I have suitable (according to the original publications) antennas connected to each AM and FM
Is there anything else obvious that I should be looking at?
Or
Is it time for a signal generator and oscilloscope?
Thank you for your help!
