Greg, I see you have some possible help here for your radio. Good!  This site is possibly the best resource for help for your Scott radio.

Greg  - The bass response on the 23 tube Scott is just OK in my experience, by today's standards.

I have two, among my Scott collection. I performed my own restorations of both.

The "tone stack" you mention is I think a reference to the later 30 tube Scott Philharmonic.

The AW-23  does not have a juke box thumping bass. Nor the kind of bass response of 1950's HI-Fi.

Bass response is more subtle and good by 1930's standards, in my opinion.

When I listen, all the bass notes are there. Clear. And not muddy like other console radios I have heard.

And the sound quality remains good with volume louder than I can stand.

Do select the at the top of this website:  Scott Info Archive      Set Folders       Allwave 23 7 knob

There you will find owners instruction manual, and some other info.

Also back to the archive section, select Scott News.     look for March 1935 issue.  labeled  SN-3-35

This March 1935 issue announces the new 23 tube model, briefly called "Imperial" - and is a long description of the design and features of the first available true high fidelity audio system for the home - a radio designed for experimental hi-fidelity broadcasting (several years before FM radio first appeared in 1940).

Scott News is a sporadic news letter during the 1930's intended for Scott customer and those interested in Scott radios. Really served as a marketing piece to announce new models and new developments.

Each Scott was built upon receipt of an order and shipped in 3 to 5 weeks later. Being custom built, the model evolved with improvements by the time yours was built.

Oh, you're not too far away, Dave and I are both near Columbus, OH. Depending on the skill of the person that did the work, it could be most anything. I'll try to give you a call this evening (still working, sort of) this afternoon. We can discuss...

Yes I’m finding that out. I was giving his name ( Dave ) by a guy in Indiana so I join this group but can’t seem to send him a message. I live in Indiana south of ft wayne . The radio has been gone through and plays but who ever did it I don’t think they did a complete job . A gu6 out of Michigan told me he thought the problem could be main resistor and caps in the tone stack circuit or caps under the IF cans .

my cell number is 765-669-1852 if you know Dave or anyone else that you trust . I would appreciate it it very much .

 Thanks, Greg

People available to work on them are rather few and far between. Dave Poland lives near me and usually doesn't do outside work. I don't much either, I have enough of my own sets. Where are you located? That might help determine if we can connect you to someone to do work.

The serial number is right on the back of the tuner, just turn your set around. It will be a letter-3digit number.

To be honest I don’t know a lot about this radio. I’m new at this and bought this about a month ago and I think it needs some minor work cause not very much bass to it. I’m trying to find someone who works and knows EH Scott radios very well. Where would I find the serial number ?
I was told a guy by the name Poland works on them I tried to contact him but not sure if I’m doing this right. Not very good at the computer thing.

Welcome!

Very nice 23 in the Tasman. If I may - what is the serial number of the set?

Mine is a 15U270.  I rebuilt the radio.  The cabinet was refinished by someone else.  It is quite nicely done except that there is a problem with the veneer on one side of the curved sections.  I understand this is a common problem where the veneer cracks and starts to lift a little.
