The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

The Laureate sounds very nice on Am, much better than almost all of my earlier Scotts. I actually had to de-tune the built in antenna sytem as it was overpowering to the receiver so now I use a 5 foot random wire with it. I have not tried the RP yet, as the seller said it needed some work.
Interestingly,it's the shortest of all my consoles and the seller I got it from told me he found it in an antique mall years ago.

Although not a true high fidelity speaker enclosure (Scott never did embrace true high fidelity speaker enclosures), there are several reasons to believe this setup may sound better than most other Scott prewar products. Compared to earlier Scott offerings, how is the sound quality from this receiver on AM and, if the phonograph is operating, on phonograph operation?

Scott Oxford cabinet from Early 1940's with original Laureate chassis, 15" speaker and crossover. Note the original black painted transformer to better dissipate heat. This is the 2nd one of these I have had and plays wonderfully, I acquired this one only 90 miles from my home in 2011.
The 1st one was much rougher condition, of a later assembly date and had many factory warrantee issues included with i in letters to Scott and the owner. It appears Scott had problems finding good repairmen during the war years.
