The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Back row have the Phantom on the left and the Philharomonic on the right. Need help with what the four long amps pair with and the two square amps to their left. Not sure if the square amp in front of the Phantom is a EH Scott amp or not.

If the 15" speaker went with the AW27 and tweeters, it would have to have a plug in provision for the tweeters similar to the 12" AW23 woofer.

Hi David, in the initial pictures, I did not yet include the speakers as I wanted to figure out the amp/radio pairings. I knew the tweeters went with the AW-27 as they were in the same box therefore the 15" speaker had to go with it. Unfortunately, it was left more to the elements as can be seen by its condition. Incidentally, I found one of the missing tube covers inside the 800 chassis and put it on the AW-27, so it is now complete of those as well.

Looks looks the #4 group has a 15 inch Magnavox speaker.

Does the AW-27 usually have 15 inch Magnavox speaker? or a Jensen 15 inch?
The only speaker I recognized as a 15 inch is the one with the curved cone and half dome wizzer over the voice coil and appeared to be for the green dial Philharmonic.

Well, I can't think of a time that a chassis, amp and speakers was ever offered without a cabinet. The tweeters have value alone, but I'd hate to see them separated from such an unusual set. That's a long way of saying I don't know what to ask on it. Let's see what others on this forum say....

Kent,

My plans are to first offer them here to the members in the forum. For most of them, I think I have some decent reference values. As I do elsewhere, I try to offer things at better than ebay prices. The only real wildcard though is the AW27. Since there are so few, that poses more of a challenge unless someone here knows some recent sales?

Darrell -

These sets sre certainly saleable, especially the AW27. It appears you have all the parts for it, this makes it desireable. The condition of all the sets will reduce their value some, but they aren't the worst I've seen. I have no idea what the unknown tuner and amp are, maybe someone else here will recoignize them. What are your plans for these sets? Do you want to sell them here or list them on ebay? Oh....and thanks for the shots of the serial numbers, that helps a lot.

Hi Bruce, I'll take some shots of the cabinet as well, but unfortunately, it contained the other AW set.

I would like to see a photo or 2 of the cabinet that was too far gone. It might be something of value and worth some investment to repair. Especially if it was matched with the rare 27 AW set.

Ok, here we go with the pairings. First off, you have an unusual set here. The Allwave tune that has two tuning eyes goes with the long amp on the far left, the one that has two tubes out on the end away from the power transformer. Those two pieces are an Allwave 27...we know of maybe a dozen of these, so it has value no matter the condition.

The amp on the far right in the picture goes with the other Allwave tuner, as you suspected. The two amps in the middle go with the Philhamonic and Phantom. Easiest way to tell is look at the 4 tube sockets in a group. The amp with 4 6L6 tubes goes with the Philly, and the amp that says two 6L6 and two 6J5 tubes is e Phantom amp.

I agree with you, I do not think that the amp nearest the Phantom is a Scott amp, but with better pictures, we might be able to tell better. You've got two Metropolitan tuners, but 3 amps....the large amps pair with those tuners. The other amp my go with something that you indicated was too far gone....I'd still like to get pictures of those chassis if possible.

I'd really like to get the serial numbers from those four tuners, and especially from the Allwave 27 tuner (with the two eyes). All the numbers will help with research on production numbers and history...thanks!
