Rockford Peerless Furniture Company, was the furniture company that made most all of the McMurdo cabinets. I have an original crate that shipped an Oxford, and I believe that is what the label says. They were out of Rockford IL.
This is the 1st time I have seen the Scott version of the Oxford cabinet.
It was interesting to see the differences made to the cabinet to contain a Scott chassis. I believe the same furniture company made cabinets for both McMurdo and Scott so I suspect it was not too difficult to make the modifications at their shop in Rockford for Mr Scott.
Thank you very much for sharing your photos with us here.
Thank you for the history. It is so facinating to now own a peice of history. I had actually thought maybe that it was part of the McMurdo family because of Scott having a riff with McMurdo and then saving it from bankruptcy. What year do you think it;s from? I will take a few pics of the back cabinet next.
Yes, it is the early version of a Phantom. The cabinet is an Oxford. The Oxford cabinet has an interesting history. When EH Scott Radio Laboratories purchased the assets of the McMurdo Silver Corporation, the assets apparently included a number of McMurdo Silver Oxford cabinets. Scott modified the cabinets by raising the top of the opening for the radio faceplate to accommodate the Phantom.
