I have just received my late 7 knob Allwave 23 from repair, and while it seems to be working well pulling in the strong stations and my AM transmitter, it is lacking in receiving more distance…Continue

Hello, I have a AW23 in a Napier cabinet and currently the screws that hold the RF plate are rounded head. Should I replace them with counter-sunk screws, or are the rounded head screws correct to this set?
Thanks, Eric

I've been meaning to tell you how upset I was that you didn't win a ribbon for your AW23 at the HLARA Summer Sizzler. I was one of the judges, but because I had a radio entered in the console category, I was not allowed to participate or even listen in on the judging of that event. Afterwards, when I expressed my surprise that you did not win an award, I learned from one of the judges that they didn't really know what you had. When I told him that your Napier cabinet was one of the rarest and most desireable, he was quite surprised that it was actually a Scott cabinet. Apparently they thought you just put your tuning chassis on top of an ordinary speaker box. They also were not aware that all of that literature surrounding your radio was yours. I gave 'em a good talking to, but by that point the ribbons had been awarded and there was no going back.
I sure feel bad about it, especially after you hauled that heavy but heavenly radio all that way. I got burned once in a similar fashion, when the judges did not understand my entry nor take the time to read all the material I had prepared.
Curt Lutz, a charter member of HLARA, restores a lot of radios for folks. He lives in Broken Arrow, OK. Email: curt.lutz@hlara.org. Phone: 918-251-8282. He has a Scott AW 15 he's been trying to sell me; I already have two.
The AW 23 is actually on this site: http://ehscott.ning.com/photo/albums/aw23-restoration-checklist
Give it a try. Let me know if it does not work...
Welcome, Eric! You should post a picture of that Scott AW 23 in the Napier cabinet. Also, you need to send the serial number of your radio to Kent (see continuing thread in forum),
I'll get back to you on the Scott repairs, but you might post on the forum seeking help. There's a lot of expertise in this group...
