The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Parting out a 1939 AM/FM Phantom Deluxe?

I have had a 1939 AM/FM Phantom Deluxe in a Chippendale Cabinet on ebay for a few years now. I’ve dropped the price several times but have never had any bites. Perhaps because of the size? Anyway, I will be moving across the country within the next year, and do not want to take this monster with me.

I completely restored the radio, including the cabinet. I’m going to take a major loss on this, but I see no other option. I’ve decided to look into selling the individual components to at least recoup a little of my investments.

But first, I need to see if there is any interest.

Here is my ebay listing:

Please let me know if you think this is a good idea, or if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

Pat

That seems to be a reasonable price to me.  I paid $750 for an FM Philharmonic in a Chippendale, in similar condition to yours, only about a year ago.  Mine is not restored, however.  You're right, I think the cabinet is probably what is keeping it from selling....it's so huge.  I hope somebody here scoops it up...you have a very nice radio there.  Do you know that you can get an adapter that converts pre-war FM to modern FM?  Bill Liers sells ones he makes, and Scott made one for their pre-war sets right after the war......they typically go for $500 up.  Bill Liers' adapters, I think, are about $300 or so.  Best of luck to you....if I had more room, I'd definitely be interested, as I don't have an AM/FM Phantom yet.
