Philharmonic AM/FM

Ever since I first heard of EH Scott radios and joined this forum, I've been looking for a Philharmonic to "fall into my lap". Well, when Ron R. sold me his Marine SLRM I saw his AM/FM Philharmonic sitting in the corner.  When he offered it for sale, I knew I would own it, I just didn't know how soon.  Now, a couple of months later, it's here in my possession.  Thank you Ron!

This will be a major project including some re-chroming.  I want to do the radio and Ron proud!  I heard Dave's (in Northern Michigan) Philharmonic (and a lot of other radios!) and decided I needed to get right on it.  So, the work has begun.  I decided to start with the amp/power supply as that is the easiest.  Because of all the small parts around the transformers, it's also the most expensive to re-chrome (driver transformer cover, IF shields and tube shields will not be re-chromed as they can easily be destroyed, though I may give Dave's re-chroming shop in Milwaukee a try.)

This Philharmonic did not have tweeters.  I would like to add them if i can find a set.

Also, since the FM is useless without a converter to the current FM frequencies, I'll be looking for a converter.  i saw the schematic in the archives.  Maybe i'll have to build one.

 They did a beautiful job.  We has some Kimball organ parts done at a local shop here in Chicago.  They were going to strip the chrome and replate them in nickel, but when the chrome came off, the original nickel just needed to be buffed out. Saved us a lot of money, and the parts look great.  I don't envy you putting the Philharmonic back together.  I had enough 'fun' just re-capping the Allwave 23.

Hi Karl.  Please read previous posts in this thread.  I had a lot of problems with Badger.  I'm not sure they are back in business.  I recently sent the tuner to Advanced plating in Nashville.  I expect them back soon.  I'll post ics of the result when I get the parts back.

I think that is their intent but they are not active presently.  The indication is that they are still looking for a new home.  I'll probably send my tuner chassis to TN.

The chromed parts came a couple of days ago!  Thrilled to get them back.  All electro and tubular caps have been re-stuffed.  6 resistors in the 6L6 biasing network were changed.  all I need to do is add an AC cord and test the tubes.  Now for the tuner chassis.

Kent, your info was correct!  I talked to my contact at Badger today and they did have a fire about 2 months ago and were forced to vacate the building.  They are looking for a new facility to get production going again.  They intend to continue to be in business.  In the mean time, they are going to take a pic of my parts and send it to me along with the final bill. I hope to get this wrapped up in the next couple of weeks!
