The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Don - looks lite an original power switch - bronze metal color, long shank and has solder lugs. Most respond well to a spray contact cleaner to improve connection. If the switch heats up much in use, try contact cleaner. I have one that was previously opened up - drilling out the rivet and reassembled with a small machine screw and nut.
Hi Dave,
Yes, it is the main power switch.
Thanks for the pictures.
switch location
do you mean the main power switch to power on the radio?
The 1937-8 Philharmonic power switch is a long shank toggle switch mounted on the side right side of the console cabinet - about 5 inches from the back edge & about 5 inches down from the top. The toggle switch is on about a 3 foot twisted wire cable from the power supply, wired ahead of the primary winding of the power transformer. This cable exits the power supply from the same hole the power cord enters.
Try a hardware store for a long shank toggle switch with a rating 4 amps or more. The shank has to be long enough to pass through the side of the cabinet. The inside surface of the cabinet hole is recessed about 1 inch diameter and 1/4th inch deep (by a Forstner bit). Done the same way on any cabinet, until sometime 1939 with the introduction of the 9 shaft BOL Philharmonic, when the power switch was relocated to the volume control.
