The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Has anyone ever taken apart and rechromed a Scott receiver chassis?

I am considering doing my Allwave sixteen (1937) receiver chassis.

Does anyone have an extra chassis that they would be willing to sell?

Thanks

John:

I have disassembled several of the earlier Scott receivers and one Special Communications Receiver for the purpose of having the chassis re-plated but I have not conducted this operation for a Scott Sixteen.  Having a conventional bandswitch, I suspect that it will be similar to the process employed for the Special Communications Receiver.  Essentially the process consists of removing all of the components from the top of the chassis taking many notes and photos as you go along then releasing and storing the remainder of the wiring intact.  Unfortunately this will involve removal of many rivets and some brass eyelets all of which will have to be replaced with something when reassembling.  I, being a purest, replace these in kind.  Others replace rivets with stainless steel machine screws with the heads ground down and polished to resemble a rivet or with ordinary machine screws.
