I have a working phantom deluxe.when I remove the grid cap on the rf avc,the volume increases hn i put the grid cap back on the volume drops way down.tubes check good.

Sounds like the AVC circuit isn't working right. When you do a re-cap, there is a can under the chassis for the AVC (both RF and IF). Inside, there are some paper caps that do need to be replaced. Removing the units to replace the caps is a bit tricky. I would certainly make sure all the caps int eh circuit are replaced and then check the alignment including the AVC settings.
