The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Hello Scott collectors, I've just inherited a serial # SS88 Scott Radio. It seems to have all parts ,lots of chrome and It lights up when plugged in. I live in a mobile home though so needless to say the reception is virtually nothing. I don't know what year it is and what model either.I will put a picture up as soon as I can.I have been asked about selling it recently but I don;t know what it's value is.Hope to get some feed back .Thank  You Sheryl

Sheryl:

Thanks for your note and inquiry.  All of the Scott receivers found to date with serial numbers starting with SS are the Phantom model.  Therefore it is most likely that your receiver is a Phantom.  Scott offered a variety of cabinets from which a customer could select one of interest and within the customers budget.  The model of cabinet is as important to the value of the complete radio as is the chassis model.  Factors affecting the value include the chassis model, cabinet model, options (remote operation capability, speaker options, phonograph options if so equipped), completeness of the chassis (missing covers and vital components is not unusual), condition of the chrome on the chassis, and completeness and condition of the cabinet and finish.  We can provide more information after you post the photos.

To answer your question Sheryl, the Phantom model was produced from mid-1938 until the beginning of WW2.  As for value, my opinion is that it is worth somewhat less than $1000 on a venue such as E-bay.
