Scott serial numbers

As most of you know, I've been gathering and analyzing Scott serial numbers for over 20 years. I have a couple requests....first, if you haven't sent me your serial numbers, please do. Also...if any of you have a confirmed date for a set/serial number, please send me that. There is a warranty tag on ebay at the moment, these are great, since they have the date and serial number on them. A letter with a date is also good confirmation. I would greatly appreciate any info you fellows can provide. I'll post more about serial numbers here in the future.

I just purchased a stunning EH Scott Allwave in Tasman case serial number J-405... This is my first EH Scott set. What does serial number tell us? Any advice unique to working on Scott radios... Helpful resources?

Chris - Yes, for this serial number, we can date the set production to the first half of Sep, 1934, probably later in that range. You've got an AW15 - these can be challenging because this set was an evolutionary set - constant production changes throughout it's life, different tube lineups, circuit changes, etc. Schematics do NOT exist for every variation, so you have to figure them out as you restore them. Click on the "Scott Info Archive" link at the top, go to Set Folders > Allwave 15 for as much info as we have on these sets.

Ask questions here in the forum too, many of us have restored or own AW15 sets and can provide help and advice. I also have several parts chassis available, so it there is an odd item you need, I may be able to help.

Today I bought a Scott Sixteen in an Acousticraft cabinet sans power chassis. Serial number is EE141.

Thanks, that is a new number for me. I may have an extra 16 power supply around here, I'll check.

I don't know if I'll be fixing it. The condition is as bad as the one currently on eBay. My tuner chassis is a rusty wreck.

Does this ink stamp date on a capacitor give any help for dating the final assembly of the unit? Looks like the chassis is untouched underneath.

Norman and I have discussed this before, our thoughts: these are manufacturer stamps, not Scott, so the set could not have been built <before> this date. And probably a while after, assuming the part sits in warehouse for a time, then is shipped and maybe sits at Scott for a time....and in fact, this correlates pretty well.. I have a hard date in this prefix, EE-125 has a good date of 22-Nov-1937. EE-141 should have been done not too long after that, so the date on this part would fit with the notes above. I think the only safe thing we can say is it is a "never before" date, but could have been much later due to the notes above.
