The Fine Things are Always Hand Made
In going thru the Sixteen IF alignment procedure, I've installed the shorts and open as required as well as the input injection network. Applied the 465KC, and tweaked the 1st IF. The procedure tells me now to adjust the 2nd and 3rd IF's without removing (or moving) the shorts/open or changing the injection point. Is this right? Aren't the 2nd and 3rd stages still shorted? The 2nd and 3rd IF adjustments don't do anything in this configuration. Yes, I'm using an analog VM (Simpson 260).

Pete - You are right...it looks like the Scott instructions fail to include the "remove" shorts. Now that you have brought this up, I wonder why Scott did this with the Sixteen. None of the other sets of the period require this procedure during IF alignment. I'm working on a Philharmonic at the moment, you just set up the test gear and align right down the line.

Kent- In a different copy of the IF alignment procedure things made much more sense and it aligned easily. However the results were identical to alignment by forcing a modulated IF signal through the antenna terminal. The bandwidth was also the same.
For what it's worth, there were no replacement tuning belts available from PTO for this Sixteen. A simple rubber belt made from .125" square rubber belt stock works very well with no backlash.
