The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Faced with a Philharmonic tuner chassis, how would one do a basic preliminary  check that the right valves are in their right places? Looking at the service manual I was surprised not to find an "aerial" plan  of the tuner chassis from above, identifying the valve and coil placements. Can anyone direct me to such a  plan?  Thanks, Jonathan

Click on the "Scott Info Archive" link right below the header and navigate to the appropriate Philharmonic operation manual (owners manual).  The tube diagram in the operation manual, not the service manual.

Jonathan,

On my 1937-8 Philharmonic pointer dial model, the tube numbers are embossed/molded into the bakelite of the tube socket top. The tube number appears 3 times spaced every 120 degrees around the edge. Pull each tube in turn and compare the number on the tube with the number on the top of the tube socket. A flashlight may help.

And my owners manual (for my pointer Philharmonic) shows the tube layout of the receiver on page 16.

Thanks to you both - I should have realised that it was likely to be in the owner's manual. Now to work...
