I am starting this discussion because I have questions about my Philharmonic as I embark on a quest to restore it to optimum performance.I have included pics of the dial and knobs. Other than what I…Continue

"The later amps all had the 4 pin socket.  You can tell the later amps by the 3 filter capacitors in a row, whereas the early amps had 4 that are in a diamond pattern. What Norman said, 2 of those pins are for the ON/OFF switch, and the other…"

"I note the 3 topside filter caps are replacements. They appear post war and maybe new enough to still be decent. The originals were taller and different construction."

"To clarify the amp configuration - one amp 7 pin socket is for the speaker. 2nd socket is also 7 pin  for the main receiver cable. (the pin diameters pin sizes vary to prevent a mix up.) And for a remote control model, a 3rd socket is 4 pin for…"

"Bob - there is a chart of B and C divider information in Riders Volume 14, under Scott - page 14-55. Also receiver resistance info starts page top of page 14-54. Note that your radio would probably be the "early" figures, in as a much as…"

"Bob - the 5U4 rectifiers suggest you may have a later substituted amp for your 7 knob early BOL Philly.Philharmonic.  The May 1939 diagram for the 9 knob Philly still shows the 5Z3 tube. The 5U4 is pretty much an octal based 5Z3 so is fine. The…"

Getting started on my Philharmonic

Is Kent King still keeping track of serial numbers? He may have mine since I obtained it from fellow collector Alex Whitaker. Where could I find the best service info for my Philharmonic BOL non-logging scale dial ? It has a remote with motorized tuning and what I believe may be motorized volume? Anyhow, thanks for letting me join a few years ago and am looking forward to getting reacquainted with the hobby since I have been adjusting to retirement.

Bob, I expect your Philly with remote control would indeed have the motorized volume control. and that the location of the bass and volume control are swapped to accommodate the motor and gears for the volume control.

What cabinet do you have?

The Archive Info (top of page) would take you to the set folders where you will find Philharmonic folder. In addition to owners manual, there is a separate item for ROBOT control with specifics for your remote control option radio.
