When the FM models were introduced in 1940, Scott also began offering a "4 unit" sound system. We've seen tweeter sets with the AW23 and the early Philharmonic sets (both use a Y-cable from the pedestal speaker to two tweeters). The 4-unit systems included a crossover box where you connected the bass speaker and two tweeters, and it also had a jack for an extension speaker. I recapped an AW23 (late) and I'm now working on the alignment. Voltage checks were in spec. IF alignment went right by the service data and trimmed out nicely. By the time I got back to the 1st IF, I had significantly reduced the generator output to keep the meter from going over - gain was excellent. On to AM band - 1400 trimmer is super close, slight tweak and then dial down to 600. At about 750, the two neon VR tubes…

Picked up this one at an auction in Indiana. Disgustingly dirty, but salvageable. Had the 15 in speaker, tweeters, and a Tauscher sound board! Cabinet is good to start...the whole set will require a lot of work but will be saved.

Ok gang...so I have an AW 23 that I fully restored about 4-5 years ago. Played great. For lots of reasons, it hasn't been run much since then. I ran it up on the Variac this weekend, and here's what happened: AM and first SW band are dead, and the osc VR tubes don't light. On SW2 and SW3, osc VR lights up and the set plays great. Good audio on the phono input too.

So I take the tuner apart and check the osc circuit. The grid resistor is significantly off value, so I replace it. Clean…

Fellow member Dave Poland asked me a question about the service manual for the Sixteen. That query made me realize that I did not have the PDF file in the "Scott Info Archive". I have just added two Sixteen service manuals to that folder in the Archive. Both manuals appear to be missing pages 7-8....however. the full size schematic is what spans pages 7-8, so those pages aren't missing, you just need to look at the diagram for those pages.
