On/off AC toggle switch

Scott Radio Friends,
I need some help. I am finishing a restoration of a Scott Warrington cabinet. Everything is place except one thing.
I need a working on/off ac toggle switch.

Here's the catch. While the exit bore hole is .5 inches in width... the depth is also just over .5 inches wide. It is .75" thick wood...

The larger initial hole is 1.5 inches and @.2 deep. This means I need switch with a stem around .75 inches to make sure the toggle clears through the hole and is firmly screwed down.

I can't find a toggle switch with a long enough stem to fit all the way through the hole. And, I don't want to drill the initial hole deeper and risk disaster.

The radio came out of the wall of an old home in another city. It came with a with a round wall light switch to turn the set on and off.

Does anyone have or know where to find one? The internet has not been helpful so far.

Try your old style local hardware store, like an ACE HDWR. You seek the "long shank" version AC switch. 

you need a switch rated more than 3 amps, say, 5 amps or more.

The long shank is about 3/4 inch, enough to to extend through the cabinet side.

If you can find an old used one, may be able rejuvenate it with contact cleaner, working it until a meter shows nearly 0 resistance. May warm a bit in use with load, so be sure does not get very warm.

That switch in the Ebay listing is a momentary contact on switch.  You toggle it to on and have to hold it there.  As soon as you release pressure, it goes back to its normally open (NO) position.  Even if it could handle the load (which it can't), it still wouldn't work.  Of course, you could put normal toggle switch guts in the housing (might be a bit of work), and use the switch's bat handle to toggle it.

I saw the listing on ebay.  It is listed at only 3 amps.  The seller has another rated at 6 amps.  Is that sufficient for a 30 tube radio?
