John - your Tasman has a replacement cloth (your small star design) from the past.

My photo of my Milton Grande is a good representation of the original "M" cloth, in as much as it was protected by doors. Very close to the cloth on my Roslyn, also protected by doors.

Scott, your upper left cloth with the purple cast was John O's 2nd version repo cloth, using 3 thread colors. Very decent, if a somewhat subdued effort, limited by then available thread colors.

Here is photo of orig, John O's 3 repos (unavailable). and Richmond Design repo (available)

John's O's #1 repo was researched from protected scraps of original cloth in the mid 1990's. I had some contact with John some years ago. Wish I had purchased way more than I did of #1. Shown in my Louis XV, pulled tight.  His later efforts were limited by available threads and dwindling US mills to make it.

Original grill cloth in the center, older reproduction on the left, Richmond reproduction on the right.  You can see that the original cloth fades to a golder color from the UV light.  The original was not very gold as witnessed by the areas that were not exposed to UV for 80 years.  The older reproduction is much closer to the original.  The texture and color of the Richmond  cloth is way off, but I have to say that it does look decent in a radio.  I used the Richmond cloth in a Phantom that I sold, so I avoided using some of my older reproduction cloth.  I paid thru the teeth for this older reproduction cloth, but it was worth it.

I have never seen that cloth on a Scott.  I might be wrong, but I am thinking it is not original.  David or Kent should be able to confirm if it is original or not.

Thanks Dave

Maybe mine is not original. Here is photo of front and side, Also not sure how much fabric it would take to do front and both sides.20210421_124755.jpg20210421_124858.jpg

Richmond Designs now has the only Scott repo cloth pattern (Aztec) available like Scott used from 1935 to 1940. Compared to the original, the Richmond's Aztec pattern is close, but is only about 70% scale of the original. To my eye, the Aztec has a decidedly green cast whereas the Scott original was a decidedly brighter gold.

John Okolowicz (deceased) made 3 versions of repo cloth some 10 to 25 years ago that were better and about the correct size pattern. Two of them were 3 color weaves like the original, and final one was two color. But they are long gone.

Photo example of original "M" cloth Scott used on my Milton Grande.

Richmond Designs.  Aztec cloth.  It is OK, but side by side with original and earlier reproductions, you can see that it is too gold and not the same texture.  I have pictures of all 3 alongside that I might post one day.  It still looks fine on EH Scott radios.
