The Fine Things are Always Hand Made
So, it looks like an AW23 speaker, but it doesn't have the two plugs for the tweeters and the stub cable (and no stub cable). The connector is like that used on the pointer Philharmonic (two large pins not together, not like a 23). Pin testing shows it should work on a Philly - but it is a 12 in and no Philly style tweeter connection either. But tagged Scott...I have two of these BTW...the other one has an AW23 style plug on it and tested it with an AW23 and it works great. Any thoughts appreciated. It isn't an extension speaker either - the connections inside the "Maganavox" door are the same as a 23 speaker. The manuals show a very different terminal strip for the extension speakers.

Thanks for this....it will take me some time to review the notes and the existing diagrams. No doubt it works, I will see if I can gain better understanding...

I did pull the speaker and tweeters out of the AW23 this weekend. I then remembered why I had a professional restore the set :-).
Attached is a word doc with photos that might help in understanding the circuit. If you need any additional info, let me know.1

Hi Norman,
I don't have a circuit for the tweeters sketched already, however, I would be most happy to do so this coming weekend.

Okay, that's interesting because without the tweeter sockets the resistor would presumably be in parallel with the tweeter field coils. That may work but I have to wonder how correct bias was developed and excessive current was avoided. By any chance could you sketch the tweeter circuits?
Norman
Here is the ceramic power resistor.
The one with the hardwired tweeters would not have had the bleeder resistor. The 12-inch Magnavox speakers without tweeter sockets were used with the Quaranta sets. I strongly suspect that unused stock was reallocated for use with late AW-23 sets near the end of the AW-23 production.

Perhaps late in the 1937 era of the AW-23 (with Phillys already in production) Scott had to make do with this version of the speaker. Looks like a typical terminal board with familiar embossed info on the terminal strip.
Does this version speaker have the big tapped ceramic power resistor in the pedestal base?
Thanks - so a standard speaker connection inside - looks just like the two I have. I'll have to sketch out how you'd connect the tweeters directly - you'd need to have all 3 speakers plugged in to operate the set, without the plug to swap the tweeters out.

Happened to have another picture of what you asked
