The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

HI just acquired a Scott Allwave 23 (7 knob version) in the Laureate Grande cabinet. This one is complete, except for the tweeters and the main pedestal auditorium 15"speaker. A field coil appears to be attached to the cabinet. Can a 15" speaker be run with a 925 ohm field coil WITHOUT the tweeters which have field coils amounting to a total of 5000 ohms? Does that 5000 ohms need to be part of the circuit in order for the amplifier to operate the main 15" speaker?

Chris. The Allwave 23 I think came with a 12 inch speaker. To use a replacement, you would need the 925 ohm field coil, and a 1300 ohm and 3700 ohm resistor in series wired to the 7 pin speaker plug. You will also need the output transformer that is part of the original speaker. Schematics are in the folders section of this web site.

Congratulations on the find.  A 50-watt 5000-ohm wirewound "dividohm" resistor is appropriate and required for bias.  The tap can be set at 1300/3700.  A fixed resistor of this size was included in the original 12-inch speaker pedestal and was in circuit if no tweeters were included.  Tweeters were optional but I have yet to find a complete original Laureate cabinet without the tweeter option.  PM tweeters may be used in a pinch.
