Phantom Deluxe Escutcheons

Good morning all.  I'm finishing up the cabinet restoration on my Phantom Deluxe and I have a question about the escutcheons.  They appear to be brass or brass plated. Should they be polished nice and shiny or left with the dull patina of age.  Also, should the raised lettering be black or left brass colored?  Thanks

They never had a bright finish the first place.  They had a tarnished finish with raised lettering smooth and in some cases slightly brighter than the rest of the escutcheon.
