The Fine Things are Always Hand Made
I've found some things I need help with, please, that don't show up on any of the info I have on my Phantom AM.
-What is the reostat on one end of the power supply for? Looks to be a 2K. Is it to balance mismatched amp tubes or to “even out” a weakening side of the pair?
-What, if any, is the difference between a Phantom AM and a Deluxe model, and how can I tell which I have. My model has a rheostat on the power supply and a switch for the phono Scratch Suppresser function that I have not seen on some Phantom chassis.
-Anybody have a photocopy (or much better, an original) of the Owner’s/Installation manual available for sale? I have the service manual and gobs of adverts and schematics, but it would be very nice to know where this thing likes to be poked and tickled to operate as intended and to complete my 3-ring "library" for this set.
Thanks much, Ted

The Phantom Deluxe has 20 tubes whereas the Phantom AM has 19. The additional tube is a type VR-150 voltage regulator for reduced oscillator drift. Both versions had the record scratch suppressor. The control on the end of the power amplifier is a hum balance control and is shown on the schematic. I have a tattered copy of the owners manual for the Phantom Deluxe that I can scan if Kent King does not already have this manual scanned and available.
