EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Thought I would post a few photos of the Warwick Grande cabinet I picked up this morning.  This cabinet cost $1500 in 1934, that would be $26,000 in 2013 dollars!  Surely only for the very rich.  This came out of an estate in Queens NY.  The house was built in 1932 in a wealthy private subdivision. From what I was told, the original owner was an heir to the Kodak fortune.  I have the paperwork from Scott dated 1937. I picked up this set from the same address that is on the Scott paperwork.   It looks like the original chassis was a Philharmonic.  The cabinet has original EH Scott decal on the rear bottom, and it has early Philharmonic tweeters and 15" Jensen.  It looks like to me the cabinet had the chassis removed years ago and it was just used as a storage cabinet.  The bottom where the chassis would sit inside the cabinet has a non-original piece of walnut plywood glued down.  I guess to make the cabinet floor flush with the door openings and cover the wiring hole.

Any clue as to how many of these cabinets were made?  I can't even find a single image of one online!  I am thinking they are rarer than hen's teeth.
