WTB or trade for Allwave 12 PS

I bought an Allwave 12 but it came with an Allwave 12 two dial PS. (I didn't notice it when I bought it.) Anyone have a PS that would work with my Allwave 12 Deluxe for sale or trade for my 2 dial PS?

Also, did the Allwave 12 deluxe only come with a two speaker option?

My Aallwave Deluxe (12 tube total) has just one speaker, the pedestal style. From what I have read the deluxe went through several variations with the earlier ones having two speakers and the later ones (such as mine) having the one. The design just changed rather than two speakers being an option.

My next step will be to look inside my tuner to see what I have.   It has a six pin plug and my PS has an 8 pin jack.  I didn't realize there were so many variations of the Allwave  12.

Joe  - The 2-DIAL might be correct - depends on if the receiver has its own voltage divider. Read on.

There were a series of evolutionary changes during the run of the single dial 12 tube DELUXE. Speakers evolved from the 11 inch single Rola, to the twin speakers and finally the 12 inch pedestal.

Initially, (May 1932) the DELUXE (did briefly use the same 2 DIAL amp with its big ceramic voltage divider and 8 wire set cable and 8 pin Jones plug. And single 11 inch speaker (Rola with Scott tag) with 5 pin plug.  I have this version.

After a couple months (Summer 1932) is when Scott 1) introduced the twin speaker set with 6 pin plug, 2) redesigned the the amp and 3) relocated the big ceramic voltage divider into the receiver. With this change, the set cable needed only 5 wires so the 6 pin Jones plug became the norm thereafter. However - I just saw last week an early DELUXE  with twin speakers so early it still used the  8 pin Jones plug but only 5 wired up - hence an amp with the new 6 pin speaker socket but a carry over 8 pin plug.    Using up parts stock, I suppose 

* December 1932 the receiver was redesigned with 58's for the IF and the Arcturus Wunderlick tube for AVC, but continued with the same amp and twin speakers for a few months before introducing the 12 inch pedestal (Jensen)

So - first see what your receiver has:  voltage divider?  set cable with 5 or 6 wires ....  or 8 wires?

       if no voltage divider, you need the 2-Dial amp with the divider and 8 pin Jones plug socket..

I haven't compared the schematics yet between the two dial and the one dial. I wonder if I can replace the 6 pin plug on the tuner with an 8 pin plug and rewire the units so they work with a 12 inch pedestal speaker?

So you are considering

1) removing the amp's voltage divider? Because the receiver has a similar (not identical) voltage divider?  

2) yes you could replace the 6 pin Jones plug with an 8 pin Jones plug.

3) you will need to replace the 5 pin speaker socket with a 6 pin socket that fits the pedestal speaker plug.

4) the speaker fields:

               2500 ohms is the B+.        

               875 ohms field.is in the bias circuit (use the 2 large pins).

Triple check your rewiring decisions. 

But I recommend waiting for the proper amp to show up on eBay - several have in recent past.

I have two 12 inch pedestal speakers, one has a missing output transformer and the other has a bad cone. Neither have any markings but they are Magnavox and look like Scott speakers. Both have 5K ohm power resistors inside. One had a cable with a 6 pin Scott connector.  

Do these sound like the correct speakers for the AW12?

Joe - Just in case it may be helpful, my photo section shows my late date AW 12 Deluxe power supply (this version does not have the vent holes along one side) and two views of the pedestal speaker that came with it. Also, my voltage divider resistor is in the tuner as you have said yours is.

Thanks for the link to the pictures.  Yes, very helpful.  My 12 inch pedestal speakers are definitely not the right ones.  Not sure what they went to.

The big pedestal 12 inch Magnavox with a power resistor inside would be for the 1935-37 AW-23 "Imperial" aka High Fidelity Full Range Allwave. Not suitable for your DELUXE.  This speaker is in cracked paint silver and also has a 2nd short cable with plug that goes into one or the other of the two 5 pin sockets on the base, depending on if the optional tweeters which field coils bypass the power resistor. 

The AW-12 Scott #3569  and AW-15 Scott #3573 are not interchangeable speakers. Those numbers are stamped on the side of the pedestal. Both have Scott decals, but are  Jensens made for Scott.  The cast metal basket of the for the AW-12 is smooth paint silver paint and 6 simple spokes. The AW-15 cast metal basket is in crackle silver paint and the basket spokes curve and branch at the rim.  Owing in part to the output transformers in the pedestal for the 45 tubes and the 2A3 output tubes, respectively. Both speakers have 2 field coils. About half the AW-15 speakers I have encountered had one field coil open.

Based on your info, the two 12 inch pedestal speakers I have appear to be for the AW23.
