I've been patiently waiting for the "right" cabinet, this one began life as an early FM GE phonograph, a optional cabinet of the same Radio now housing my 800b. Both with the full doors are difficult…Continue
Appreciate the feedback Dave, thank you.
Dave - I attended the auction and looked the early AW-23 Scott 5 knob radio over. No statement made of the working condition. I passed it up.
Sold for $750 plus 10% gallery fee plus 7 1/5% State tax - so pushing $890.
A lot of corroded chrome with some bubbling and pealing on the receiver and amp. Sovtec output tubes. The cabinet had been refinished with a rather flat finish which pretty well hid the beauty and depth of the fancy fiddle grain tropical Laurel veneers. Oil finish? The Richmond Designs repo Aztec speaker cloth (a darker 70% scale repo of the original gold cloth) has a bit of a green cast that, to me, did not compliment the blond cabinet.
I was not interested. Looked like more work that I was interested for result unsatisfactory to me. (I have an excellent example in that cabinet already.) Hope the buyer restores it, rather than parting it out, Properly restored electrically, a great sounding radio.
Hi Dave
I sent a request for friend before I can PM you.
