Additional mounting hole

Hello,

I have an AW 23 with an additional mounting hole and volume trim plate on the left side of the cabinet.

Any thoughts what this was for?

It probably had an outboard expander unit, this would be for the expander control. Usually, a factory add would have the escutcheon labeled "Expander" but if it was done later, it could be whatever was available.
