Allwave 12 Deluxe questions

Hi just got done cleaning and replacing 4 caps on my Allwave 12 Deluxe.Was wondering what style of tubes came with it..Globe or ST type??? While cleaning the cabinet found a stensil that says Peerless Man Company,is this the cabinet maker by chance ?? Set plays wonderful and sure does have great tone with it! Angelo : )

I can offer an educated opinion and say that by the time of the Allwave 12 DeLuxe's first introduction, all tubes used in production would have been shouldered except for the Wunderlich (used in later models with AVC). All Wunderlichs were globe. If your Allwave 12 DeLuxe uses a Wunderlich, the set is somewhat later production and, therefore, would have been shipped with all (except the Wunderlich) shouldered tubes.
Only the earliest type 45s and the type 80 tubes were ever produced as globe style tubes.
Type 56, 57 and 58 were never offered as anything but shouldered tube types.

Hi thanks for the info..The set does have the Wunderlich tube in it.I just wanted to make sure it looks as it did from the factory! My Phantom Delulxe i had to change many tubes to get it as it should look.Now will do the same to my Philharmonic 30..Thanks again..Angelo

At the time the EH Scott Radio Laboratories offered the Allwave Deluxe, I believe they were equipping their chassis with Arcturus tubes and it is very likely that Arcturus was still making the type 45, 56, and 80 tubes in the S type envelopes. Therefore, I do not believe it is clear that all tubes in the Allwave Deluxe but the Wunderlich would have been in the shouldered type ST envelopes. Also, Arcturus did make the Wunderlich in a clear glass ST envelope with ink stamped base for replacement purposes

Interesting Norman. I've never seen a Wunderlich that was in a shouldered envelope and even the rebranded Sylvania Type 29s were blue glass globe versions. But just because I never heard of or saw of one certainly doesn't mean they were nonexistent. To my knowledge the types 56, 57 and 58 were always shouldered, is that consistent with your understanding? Jim Clark's Collector's Guide shows that the Allwave 12 DeLuxe with AVC was introduced in December of 1932 which would be extraordinarily late for most globe types.

I believe Arcturus was using the S type envelopes for a good bit longer than other companies. They made quite a few blue glass type 56 tubes with the S envelope and a black hot stamped base. I have a number of these and even one with a blue hot stamped base. The clear glass ST Wunderlich tubes are less common than the blue glass S types. I have seen two of the ST types. I have never seen a blue glass ST type 56 tube in spite of many blue ST type 57 and 58 tubes used in the same radios. Therefore it is likely that the blue S type 56 tubes were manufactured until approximately the time that Arcturus switched to the clear ST type 57 and 58 tubes.
