Scott VS Fisher

Am fixing up a 800 B for a friend, in the same house i have a Fisher model 24 anneversery model which came out in 1947 making it a competer to the 800B Scott Has anyone seen on of these? Battle of the super radios.

 I have both of those sets, too,  and have compared them side by side using the same high fidelity FM station .

With both sets stock (as built by the factory) and restored correctly, the model 24 Fisher has a slight edge over the 800B in fidelity. That's probably due to the better speaker used in the Fisher.

Scott used the 15" Jensen co-ax with paper cone tweeter. The standard speaker in the Fisher 24  was a 15" Jensen HNP (which Scott used in some Metropolitan 16A's as well as some late 800B installations.) The optional speaker in the Fisher 24 was the 15" Stephens co-axial with multicellular horn tweeter.

Thanks Ken, I tend to agree. Just got through putting in a Thorens "Concert" 43 turntable using a GE  cartridge in my Fisher Looks and sounds great especially on 78's.

Ken, did you get the phono preamp with your Fisher 24? trying to find out how it was married into the 24. Also looking for the schematic for the scratch supressor for the 24. Thanks. Norman

The preamp in mine is integrated into the outboard scratch suppressor unit. My service notes for the model 24 do not include a schematic for  that scratch suppressor. Instead, it appears in the schematic for the Dynamic Noise Suppressor Wide Range Amplifier, which was a very early Fisher component amp with a separate power supply. If you'd like, I can make a copy of that schematic and send it to you.

I would expect the scratch suppressor circuit of the Fisher to be the H.H. Scott Dynaural circuit that HH Scott started to market about 1949 as the Models 111-A and 112-A units. In 1950 HH Scott introduced the 120-A preamp with equalizations curves to compliment the Dynaural units.

Is Fisher"s about like the 4 tube HH Scott Dynaural circuit incorporated by license in the Scott Labs Metropolitan 16A?

It is simmilar except it has one more tube(maybe phono preamp.) a label on the cover states it is licenced by H.H. scott company.

Dave and Norman, Right now I am not near my Fisher, so cannot compare its noise reducer-preamp's tube lineup with that of the HH Scott Dynaural Noise Suppressor that's in my 800B.

However, I will do that in the next day or so and get back to you.

Norman,  Your best bet for early Fisher schematics might be to ask the folks on the Yahoo Fisher group which is called something like "Fisher Friends".  Ken
