EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

busted laureate or how NOT to have a Scott tuner and power supply shipped to you.

I bought a Laureate and power supply in fairly good condition. A little surface rust and a GOOD DIAL glass.  However when I received the tuner you can see bent the chassis is now.  The Ebay seller packed them both in one box NOT a crate or two boxes. I purchased from the same seller a pair of Scott A12 speakers with the "network" connector probably for am/fm phantom.  I received the speakers yesterday. Poor packing again.  One speaker shifted during shipment and rammed into the cone of the other.  Once I saw that I started a return request and ask for a refund for one speaker.  I basically paid $150 for two phantom speakers. One good one and one I will to send out to get cone paper cone changed.  Not a bad deal when you think about how much EH Scott go for.  I then got a notice from UPS I am getting a shipment today but only one box.  I opened the box and noticed glass everywhere so I decided I needed a dial glass and odered one from Radio Daze. It was only later in the day did I fully unwrap the tuner to see how bad the damage is.  Well if I have access to a auto body shop I might be able straighten it out.  Well I need a Laureate chassis.   ANYONE HAVE one?  I don't mind if it is a rusty  as long the chassis is STRAIGHT.  Oh I only paid $100 for the turner and chassis combined.  It would have been a great buy if only the Ebay seller had shipped it in two boxes.

Wow, that took a hell of a blow to make that dent.

I'm wondering if you could take tube sockets and coils out of that corner of the chassis, and beat it back out straight.  If you took out the perishable parts, you could probably heat up the chassis with a propane torch and hammer it back out against a vice/anvil/flat heavy steel surface.  Possibly more trouble than what it's worth?......maybe worth a try.

I should have a Laureate tuner chassis for you - let me check...

The Laureate is under appreciated - the last set designed by Hobbs before the war, and the only Scott where an FM circuit was in the original design. Also, of all the chrome sets from 1932-42, it is the least common, I only have 45 serial numbers in the database.

I'll look later today and see what I have.

Never use that seller again. complain loudly. Evident not an eBay purchase. warn others of this seller by name.

I do have a straight and unbent chassis you can use as a base.

If you can use it - it is yours for only the cost of packing (correctly!) and shipping. Just let me know.

Kent

Sounds good I'll take it.
