EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

Chassis set only...Serial number SS-372

It came with a crossover and a 12" speaker.  Not sure if this is the correct speaker. Any opinions?  Unfortunately the speaker was messed with.  Please see attached photo.

Similar but not original speaker.

IMO Scott speakers are much heavier than std Maggie speakers and use a curved cone.

Not sure what the cross over is for. These were used with the 4 part Hi Fi option with 2 tweeters and a 12" non pedistal woofer.

Tks Bruce.  I would assume that the unit had the Hi-Fi option at one point, hence the crossover.  The seller says he *thinks* he has the tweeters somewhere in the basement but has to find them.

Scott - I agree with Bruce, not a Scott speaker. Can you post a pic of the crossover? Many Phantoms used the crossover networks (Scott had two of them)....BTW...the Phantom could have had either a 12 or 15 in speaker, even with the crossover, I've seen both. Would be great if you can get the tweeters....and thanks for the serial number.

Appreciate your input Kent.

Here is a pic of the crossover:

It looks like the crossover for my Philharmonic AM/FM.

The power supply/amp has me a bit concerned.  A quick check of the secondary reads 25 ohms correctly, but I hate seeing a burnt resistor like that.  I assume that the fuseholder that is currently wired was added on later.

Thanks.

Definitely a cross-over for the 4 piece HI FI option. These crossovers sell for $300 and up on ebay.

These used 2 tweeters in the 2 small plug in connectors and the ads show a 12" non pedistal speaker that had a hi fi sticker on the back.

Interestingly, these replaced a single std 15" speaker in the Phantom and Philharmonic. It seems to me a step down to go from a 15" to a 12" so maybe Scott started to use a bigger 15" hi fi speaker instead in later runs.

The use of a 12-inch woofer probably had to do with soundboard size limitations within some cabinets.  Are there any confident examples of the four unit speaker system using a 15-inch woofer?

My AM/FM Philharmonic was pulled from an attic with a crossover and 15" woofer.  I have good reason to believe that the set belongs together even though there is no properly fitted cabinet.  I base my belief knowing the habits of the individual who stored it there for 50 years.

I'll agree with Scott...I have an AM-FM Phil that I removed from a Georgian cabinet many years ago, it had the 15 in speaker with tweeters and the crossover. I still have the entire set except the cabinet.
