Local auction finds

 Well yesterday the local auction house here in central Florida had some interesting radios.They had 5 Scott radios, and AK 9C, and I took home three Scotts and the AK. A Philharmonic, Allwave 23, and an AC-10. The other two that got away were an Allwave 15 and another Philharmonic. Unfortunately all were in homemade cabinets. They looked good from afar but not so up close. They did come with speakers and amplifiers so that is nice. The 15" pedastal on the Philharmonic has been reconed. Aslo it has some sort of preselector that I'm not familiar with. I'm going to check them out and will sell one or two. I am also looking for a brass base tube socket for a shortbase 201A tube and tube for the AK if anyone has one.

Thanks for posting Ron.  The preselector is an FM band converter allowing the Philharmonic to receive FM stations on the modern FM band.

Norm. It has a long cable that was plugged into one of the 6l6 tube sockets on the amp. Is that correct? I would assume that's how it gets its power.

Robert - sorry!! And yes, the long cable is the power pickup for the FM converter. There is a manual for the converter in the Archive. Those are fairly desirable by itself, so it is a great find! 

Look in the FM Tuner folder in Set Folders for the manual.

The serial numbers are Philharmonic: # GG-356, Allwave 23: # X-365, and the Scott shield grid unit: #939. I did not get the other ones but I may be able to get them. I'll work on it.

I had both of those chrome chassis already so it is likely the previous owner had reported all of them. I don't track the SG9 numbers (too few) but from what I know, that's a fairly low number. Most are over 1000, the lowest I've seen is 768.

What parts do you need for the AK? Pictures? I might have something buried in my old stuff - 30 years ago, before my Scott days, I had a large AK collection and the odd piece falls out of boxes now and again.

        I need the brass base for the tube socket that holds the 201A tube. On the tube island where the detector and audio amplifier tubes are one is missing. It is just glued in. I also need a short pin 201A or 301A tube.

I'm sure I've got a short pin 01A, I'll have to dig it up - give me a few days. I'm not as confident on the brass piece...

The brass collars were also used in the early Model 20 receivers.  The retaining tabs often break off when removing the collar to replace a corroded one on a breadboard model hence the glue.  Model 20 receivers are common and cheap.  Find an early Model 20 parts set for a replacement collar.
