The Fine Things are Always Hand Made
Greetings,
I received an Allwave 23 as a gift about 30 years ago. The set has the high frequency speakers as well as the volume range expander unit. It is the 7 knob arrangement.
I had capacitors replaced and an alignment performed about 15 years ago and then life got in the way.
I am very happy to have just found this site as I am enjoying the Scott again. The set is not without issues. The chrome is less than perfect, but presentable. It's missing the dial escutcheon as well as those for the Radio/phono and Beat oscillator (I actually don't if there were escutcheons for the radio/phono and beat oscillator knobs as the front panel is also missing), and the wave change escutcheon.
As for knobs, I am missing the wave change lever and the tuning knob and one of the small knobs for either the radio-phono or bear oscillator switch (I have only 1).
When I first got the radio, it was missing the cabinet and I had grand plans to build one (time again got in the way). I'm a little wiser now and would like to buy an original.
So now I would like to complete this Scott and find missing knobs, escutcheons and a cabinet! Not too much to ask :-).
I'm wondering if anyone might either have some of my missing parts for sale, or suggestions for sources. Is there a drawing available for drilling and cutting of the front panel?
The serial number for this radio is A-741 and I have no idea of it's providence.

The fact that it has the resistor is interesting. Apparently the speaker was designed to work with and without the tweeters like the usual version with sockets on the foot and a jumper cable out the back.

Greetings,
I am well on my way to bring all the missing bits together to complete this Allwave 23.
Would anyone be able to supply either a pattern for the front panel for the Allwave 23 7 knob, or at the very least, the size and shape of the dial opening and the distance from the top of the tuning shaft? I can layout the holes necessary for all of the switch shafts, but I need to reference the dial opening.
Thank you,
Fran Mayer

Here is a couple of pictures of my aw15, I think that the dimensions for the aw23 are similar,
it looks like the distance between the center of the tuning control and the bottom screw of the bezel is
0.84 inches or so, or 3.5 inches from the bezel top screw, a suggestion is to cut a hole in a piece of card to fit the bezel and juggle the measurements to fit,
the bezel hole is trapezoid with the smaller dimension at the top,
Mike
Mike,
Thank you for the dimensions. I think that I will be able to lay out a template with what you have provided. Here goes!

Good thing those calipers have an inch setting Mike... :-)
Yeah it's really neat, at the touch of a button it can measure cubits, or fathoms,
and I can always use it as an adjustable wrench.
Fran - check out the empty Scott TASMAN cabinet on eBay: 123195590276.
This cabinet is very presentable and is drilled for your late version AW-23. Just needs speaker cloth.
If the seller is including the escutcheons, even better.
It is a long distance from you but shipping is possible.
Considering you have zero cost in your complete radio so far, a cabinet purchase may be appropriate.
David,
I completely missed that posting. Cabinet is quite presentable. Logistics for transport might be a challenge (local pickup only) but I am looking into options.
Thank you for the heads-up!

Still looking for a cabinet.
The eBay listing for the Tasman cabinet has disappeared.
Oh well!
Better luck with the next one!
