Philharmonic refinishing resource

Hello,

Can anyone recommend a refinishing resource for a Scott Philharmonic? I am having some difficulty finding someone to take it on. I am in the Southern California area.

David,  I have a KK-104 that has a date stamp of Dec 6, 1937.

Correction, that metal rectangular box contains seven .5 MFD  (not .05) caps. Use 630 volt modern film caps.

Is there any potting that needs to be removed?

The cap box is potted with pitch, after cutting the bottom open the contents can be dug out, it's fairly easy as it's mostly paper capacitors, if you are really fussy you can remove the pitch remnants with wd40 and a final rinse with alcohol, this will dissolve any remaining tar and leave the box fairly clean.

one of the boxes was missing in my philharmonic so I made a new one, that's what you see here, I lined the box with transformer insulation paper to stop anything shorting out.

i don't think that you could unsolder the box without causing damage to the seams,

be careful with the pitch if you use heat as it sticks to skin really well.
